1962 china war

HOSTILE TO SOVEREIGNTY, FOR THE LAST MUGHAL JAWAHARLAL NEHRU, ‘WE, THE PEOPLE’ WERE MERELY SHEEPS AND GOATS

Under the cloak of security, details of China Debacle-1962 were hidden under wraps from public. Even Henderson-Brooks Report of NEFA Inquiry was not allowed in public domain. Every democratic country like UK, USA allows all such reports after a specified number of years but the last Mughal that Nehru was as well as his dynastic successors, did not allow even that. A golden opportunity of writing accurate history narrative, arriving at right conclusions and deriving lessons for future was completely lost. Nehru and his bureaucracy were mortally unnerved owing to their brazen incompetence, absence of commitment and conviction. History has a nasty habit of visiting those who tend to ignore it. Uncomfortable questions like nature of border dispute, why Nehru did not settle border dispute in 1954 itself at the time of signing Panchsheel Agreement, why Nehru ordered change of maps in 1954 and on what grounds, why Chinese offer of swap-deal on McMahon Line and Akshai Chin was not accepted, why our defences were so poor, whether Nehru’s unilateral Forward Policy was justified etc. still rattle and provoke so many contemplative minds, are yet to be resolved. Not only accountability could never be established, the last Mughal Nehru did not have moral propriety to step down even after the humiliating debacle.

Impudent, insolent, incorrigible and unshamed Nehru devoid of compunctions not only did not step down but also did not order any worthwhile probe. His real mind-set surfaced when he responded on the issue of nation’s sovereignty to this effect, “What sovereignty ? Sovereignty over what ?” In his view, people in the country were like sheeps and goats, they didn’t deserve to think or raise uncomfortable questions, they should limit themselves to survival instincts and bare means to survive with lowest order of dignity. He was unable to discern national interest from self-interest as anything in the name of national interest did not exist at all. It was all self-interest for him all the way. Not only Nehru brazenly declined to institute an inquiry into ‘Mother’ of all debacles, he raised all sorts of hurdles on functioning of Henderson-Brooks Committee appointed by COAS Gen. Chaudhuri. In spite of all obstacles the committee did such a superfine job that Nehru had to declare it classified, never allowed it into public domain. Not only Prime Minister Indira Gandhi declined to de-classify the report, even BJP Govt. found it too embarrassing for the country to reverse the decision. According to unofficial disclosures by those who accessed the report, wrong maps were submitted to Chinese and a few Bharatiya posts were shown as Chinese posts. And Chinese came over to capture that !! In a way, China War-1962 and subsequent humiliation was in reality invited by the last Mughal Nehru.

Well known journalist Claude Arpi commented, “Unfortunately, historians and researchers have never been allowed access to original materials to write about Nehru's leadership during the troubled years after Independence. It is tragic that the famous 'Nehru Papers' are jealously locked away in the Nehru Memorial Library. They are, in fact, the property of his family! I find it even more regrettable that during its six years in power, the NDA government, often accused of trying to rewrite history, did not take any action to rectify this anomaly. Possibly they were not interested in recent history !”
